In situ Detection of Zooplankton Grazing
This is a laboratory and field based study that is focused on verifying the source, stability of the humic-like material (Peak Z) found using fluorescence. Previous work has suggested that this material is produced by zooplankton and that this material could be used as a “fingerprint” for zooplankton activity in the water column. The objective of this project will be to confirm this finding and to develop an in situ fluorometer to detect hotspots of zooplankton activity in the water column.
